Follow the Judge Pt. 3 - The Hedgerow Maze
11:24
You’re planning to escape Max’s birthday party as soon as it gets dark and go find your daddy, but just when you think you can slip away, Max announces that it’s time for his annual birthday tradition: a game called Follow the Judge. Supposedly they get drunk and play it every year in the hedgerow maze...in the dark. You figure you can get away once you’re outside, but soon you are in the heart of the massive hedgerow maze and it’s pitch black and now you’re lost. The rules of the game are simple: someone is “the judge” and everyone hides and if he spots you, he yells “Follow the Judge!”. Then you’re his prisoner and you have to follow behind him and do whatever he says unless you can escape back into the darkness. But if it’s just a game, why do you feel so nervous? Maybe it’s this maze that seems impossible to find your way out of. Or the fact that the grounds of the Di Petrapaullo estate are so large that your daddy, eating dinner with the grownups on the patio, wouldn’t even hear you if you screamed. Or maybe it’s this section of the maze that looks like a jungle, with looming animal topiaries that seem almost real in the dark. And of course the tiny skirt your daddy made you wear keeps riding up and you can barely walk let alone run in your heels. You stop behind a topiary to take a deep breath when suddenly a tall dark figure materializes in the blackness: “FOLLOW THE JUDGE!”
