Hira,
Of the days I’ve been gone, or the soft words muttered on a night’s breeze in the wilderness, the only thing I’ve truly lost count of has been the number of times I’ve thought of you. The stars I’ve used as my blanket take me far from these strange places and unknown faces, back to your balcony. To the softness of your smile as you wove the tales of old, using the sparkle of the sky to illustrate the great heroes and gods.
I’ve missed you. Those nights meant more to me than I ever knew; a haven from the nonstop adrenaline of the arena. Or worse, from Elif’s demeaning posturings. The warmth of the sand and the rock walls of the estates which seemed to reach out like a glowing hand born of the heat of Eastgate, I of course miss those. The sights and sounds of the bazaar, the throbbing chants of the crowds showering me with praise from a victory, of course I miss those. But none so much as you.
A glowing hand -- an ironic imagery for sure. I’ve met with some strange companions, and my journey has been perilous, dangerous, and at times grueling. But as lost as I feel, I’m somehow led by a feeling of purpose. I may be crazy -- perhaps my sense of belonging is simply a reflection of how outcast I am. I’ve befriended a Tortle who has, at any given time, glowing hands or dark tendrils emerging from his slow-speaking self. There’s also a blue man, the likes of which I’ve never seen. He worships a goddess of water, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d say he was the child of a raging wave. He could out-eat Assel Gurdaspt, if that’s any mental image. You’d know more than I do of this Melora he worships.
There are two women with me as well. One is quite an enigma: she fights like me, but she’s almost as beautiful as you. Almost. She keeps a unicorn on her shield and speaks to animals like any other person. The other one is a tiny, to-the-point firecracker, who is as well-read as she is dangerous. She follows an arcane path. You’d like her. I’ve borrowed one of her spellbooks to find some way to reach you -- but I cannot make heads or tales of what’s written. We’ve also got ourselves a red drake in tow, which I cannot estimate will end any way but with the loss of one of my appendages.
Aside from telling you how much my heart yearns to be home, I’ve also attached two vials with this letter, taken from an abomination -- a creature of the underdark. I cannot speak to the potency, but I hope they can assist in your project.
Of note: do you know anything of an entity named “The Red Death”? I appear to have been, through mechanisms beyond my comprehension, installed as a player towards the demise of this being, and yet its details elude both me and my companions.
I do not know when I will see you. I do not know when I will be able to send this. By the blood in my heart, I do not know if I will survive long enough to even send it. But if there is life left in me, this letter will find you. As will I, dear Hira.
Forever Yours in Love and Duty,
Dassok di Raszpiik
